    Hello & Welcome to the Easy Auction Business newsletter #14!

    We’re back this week with lots of great stuff! Here’s what we’ll cover in today’s newsletter:

    We’ll take a closer look at results of our questionnaire. I’m so happy that I did this move as your answers gave me very interesting data about you – my newsletter subscriber. I’m sure it will be a great eye opener for you as well.

    Straight after reviewing survey results I will announce that one lucky winner who will receive a brand new Apple iPod Touch. But that’s not all :-) I have some smaller gifts prepared for some of you who took extra time to answer optional questions.

    Once we finish with the questionnaire, I’ll introduce you my newest website – a place where you’ll be able to get absolutely FREE advice personally from me. Whatever it’s branding, products, suppliers, eBay or search engine optimization – I’ll be here to help you out!

    Ok, without a further ado – let’s get started!

    EAB Newsletter Questionnaire – Analysis

    First of – I just can’t continue without saying huge, huge Thanks to all who get involved and spend few minutes on answering my questions. I really didn’t expect such a huge response! Dozens and dozens of people took my offer and helped us to build this newsletter better one this year. Thanks so much for your response! At the end of the day, I do this for you – so the more active community we can build, the better for us.

    Let’s go through each question to see what kind of problems majority of you are facing and most importantly – how to fix them effectively!

    Question Nr. 1: Are you currently selling on eBay?

    As you can see from the chart – 54.29% answered positively while 45.71% said that they don’t sell on eBay at the moment. Difference isn’t huge so we can say that half of your are active eBay sellers and other half are just looking for ways to get started.
    This basically means that I have to keep providing information on all kinds of level of difficulty as otherwise I would ignore newbies or people who are more experienced in e-commerce.

    But generally speaking, I don’t want to make this newsletter too simple and cover basic questions such as “What payment options can I use on eBay?” and similar ones. That’s why I came up with an idea of covering large portion of small questions/topics in a different way. More on that at the end of this newsletter.

    Question Nr. 2: Do you own an E-commerce site?

    77.14% of respondents answered “NO” while only 22.86% revealed that they own an e-commerce shop. So roughly two thirds of you are without an online shop. This is interesting because as we’ll find out later on, almost everyone is interested in having one.

    Question Nr.  3: How much money would you like to make per month, running an online business?

    I thought this one was easy :-) where do I have to check for a million? He-he

    In reality, it looks like you have more realistic, down to earth plans. This actually is not that bad. As your medium term goals should be reachable, otherwise it’s not worth having them. Long term goals is a different story though and probably I would get different answers if my question would be presented in a slightly different way.

    Anyway, as you can see from the chart – majority of you would be happy to make up to 2000 pounds and only 17.14% respondents are targeting for more than 5k per month.

    IT’s totally understandable, before you haven’t made a single penny online; you’re shooting for extra income or at the most – to replace your current wage. Once things are progressing with your business, your goals will change.

    The lesson to learn from this question is that whatever plans you have; you have to set INCOME GOALS! Exact numbers in a set period of time. So for example:

    I want to make 500 pounds per month on eBay. I want to achieve this result by August, 2009 so that I have extra money to spend on children when they start going to school.

    Once you have exact figure in your mind, you can make further calculations. So for example – 500 per month comes down to around 17 quid per day. Now, how’s that sound? More realistic than 500 in a one go, right?

    17 pounds per day – so I just have to sell 3 items with 6 pound profit on each. You see – when you break down the numbers everything looks more achievable and real!

    This is kind a target you should set for yourself. Write it down on a piece of paper. Mark it in your calendar. On the wall. On the car. Whatever it takes!!! You have to visually see it every day to stay focused.

    I’ll never forget what my mentor said few years ago:

    “Andy, do you want to make a million selling stuff Online? Then just learn how to earn 1 pound and repeat the process million times.”

    You see what I mean? You have to start small! Earn that 1 pound. Or just 50 pence. Trust me, majority of people who dream about making money online, haven’t achieved even that. They haven’t earned a single pound on eBay! So how could they possibly make a million?

    Question Nr. 4: What’s the biggest problem you face at the moment?

    This one was a real eye opener for me. I realized that we have spent too much time on marketing, branding side of things while your biggest problem is finding a niche to work in and products to sell.

    That’s why from now on, we’ll have regular case studies – I’ll show you “step by step” how to find a niche, research market, check suppliers and make your first order. As without products, you will never make any money online! This is my number one priority.
    I’m also thinking that maybe I should create a separate service where I help you to find those profitable products & niches. We’ll see how it goes and I’ll keep you updated.

    This question shows another, huge problem – only 2.86% of you stated that you have problems solely with marketing side of things. This is a huge mistake. Sure, people who answered that they have problems with everything, also voted for “marketing” but anyway – that doesn’t change the fact.

    From what I see – majority of you still do not realize that it’s NOT the product that will make you money. It’s all about HOW you present it, how you sell it. In a word it’s called marketing which includes branding, positioning, pricing, relationships and many more important elements. Remember, it’s NOT the product that will make you rich. Marketing will. We don’t have that much time to go in detail here but just think about all those TV Shop Commercials, Deal of the day websites etc. People buy that stuff not because they need it but because they are thought to do so.

    Question Nr. 5: Are you more interested in selling on eBay or owning your very own online shop?

    Again, this question helped me realize that we haven’t even touched the e-commerce side of questions in our newsletter. eBay has been the King & Queen for the last 6 months in our newsletter. But not anymore.

    It’s not only your answers that made me thinking that it’s time to change the format of this newsletter and concentrate on e-commerce in general. To show you the real picture so to speak. eBay is not the end of the world! Neither should it be your beginning. Sure, I still recommend eBay as a great starting platform but personally nowadays, I use it solely for lead generation purposes.

    That’s why I’m working on a new format which will go live probably in a few weeks time or so.

    Question Nr. 6: How often I should publish the EAB newsletter?

    Hmm, this is tough one. As you can see – the majority of you want to hear from me bi-weekly or even monthly. I personally like the weekly format but surely, it’s not easy to keep up the good work and get you excited every week.

    That’s why I’ll probably switch to bi-weekly version. Well, we’ll see how it goes with the new website, maybe one week I’ll just give you an update on what’s going on with it and other week  – publish video newsletter.

    Question Nr. 7: Would you be willing to pay to receive my weekly video newsletter? If yes, how much?

    I already expected some interesting stuff from this one don’t worry, it was just a question – I won’t charge you for my newsletter. I just wanted to check whatever I’m worth 5 quid a week or not. Results you can see yourself, he-he.

    Actually, it’s not that bad – almost third of you would be willing to pay 5 pounds per week. This would make me some nice, extra income. Just kidding, don’t worry – my newsletter stays free! (Unless economic crisis goes out of control:-)

    Question Nr. 8: What’s your business goal for 2009?

    An interesting question with even more interesting answers. Thanks to all who answered this question as it was optional. From what I can see – majority of answers are on the same track:

    • Create a steady income;
    • Market my online store and increase sales;
    • Make a profit of 10k;
    • And similar ones.

    Just remember what I told you about goals in the beginning of this newsletter – you have to set reachable, medium term goals and write them down on a paper.

    Without a target you’re like Carlos Sainz in a desert without a GPS device. So set your targets. Today. Right now.

    Question Nr. 9: Any other comments or questions you would like to address?

    Again – Thanks for all your answers! I feel like it’s worth continuing doing this as so many people find this stuff useful for them.
    Several of you pointed out that I shouldn’t concentrate solely on UK as there are plenty of US & Europe based subscribers. Good point and I’ll keep that in mind with our new format of this newsletter.

    Ok, now – who gets the wine & bear?

    The Winner

    I wish I could send a gift to everyone who took part in this questionnaire, but I can’t so let’s announce the winner of a Brand New – Apple iPod Touch 16GB.
